Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.
It is so easy to join in with the gossip and silly chatter at school, work or when we see friends and acquaintances. We pass on coarse jokes that are usually cruel comments on a specific groups of people, generalised and untrue.. It is so easy to agree with the negative comments about others or to even say them ourselves. We can even tell ourselves we are okay because we might think those comments but at least we didn't say them. Or we listen but just agree and don’t challenge someone's perspective , we just let them think we think as they do.
So much better to reflect on things to be thankful for. Thankful that you have friends, that you do have family, you are working with colleagues, you are attending school or college with others. That everyone is unique in the eyes of God. Is it so hard just to have a ready smile and kind word for someone, isn't that what you want? Whilst trouble comes to us all in many ways how uplifting to see beyond the circumstances to a God who loves us so much , to whom we have much to be thankful for.
Being thankful is not ignoring the difficulties but saying that in the midst of them and through them we still have so much. You have sight to read this, a brain to ponder and reflect and a God who is willing and able to fill your thankful heart with so much more.
Why don’t we decide today that we are going to have a thankful day , thanking God for all and who He is , and to thank and bless people in thought and deed.
