PRAYER and FASTING

Session Two

PURITY

How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. Psalm 119.9

REFLECTION

“Our understanding of purity has significantly shifted, both in general culture and within the church. Regrettably, in secular society, purity has become a matter of personal preference, while objective truth is ridiculed. Historically, particularly within the church, purity was often defined by abstinence: avoiding alcohol, pubs, and secular music and movies. However, the Psalmist perceived purity not merely as a matter of restraint, but as a proactive engagement. He understood it as obedience to God’s word, coupled with active application in daily life. This dynamic aspect of purity resonates deeply with me. God’s word is not passive; it challenges our internal biases and guides us to embody divine truth, enabling us to make a tangible difference.”

QUOTES

When a man’s heart is right with God the mysterious utterances of the bible are spirit and life to him. spiritual truth is discernible only to a pure heart, not to a keen intellect. It is not a question of profundity of intellect, but of purity of heart – Oswald Chambers

PRAYER

In this session we want to pray that Jesus will make his home in our hearts as we trust him. Like Isaiah we want our eyes open so we can see the Lord. We want to truly see Jesus so we know what we need to become. Pray that God’s refining fire will fall in the church and everything that is not of him will be burnt. Pray for the boldness to go and be like Jesus.

MEDITATE

Think through the questions and comment

What does purity look like to you?

Be Holy because I am holy. This was a comment in the gospel’s from

God. He was challenging his followers to just be like himself. How is this

different or similar to your picture of purity

There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
