This is the prayer outlook for this month . As a church community we are doing this together on the first Tuesday of the month. We are aware that this might not work for everyone on this day and this material has been designed for you to use at any time that is convenient for you. This information will be up throughout the month and will change at the beginning of next month for the focus for that month.
Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed
before anything else, and he holds all creation together. Christ is also the
head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything. For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, [20] and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.
Colossians 1:15-20
How you see the world shapes how you engage with it and how you live your life. We live in a society of conflicting worldviews where, both consciously and subconsciously, we are being shoehorned into dynamic perspectives that influence our choices.
As followers of Jesus, what we believe about how the world came into existence—and where humanity and creation originate—directly determines how we engage with humanity and how we treat the world around us.
When Paul wrote to the Colossians, he was contending for the absolute supremacy of Jesus. He stood against those who wanted to downgrade Christ to merely one deity among a pantheon of gods, rather than acknowledging His preeminence over every philosophy, religion, and power.
Paul highlights Jesus’ supremacy by declaring that He is the visible image of the invisible God. Because Christ existed before anything came into being, He understands the ultimate mechanics of creation. Paul attributes to Jesus the creation of all things—both visible and invisible—including rulers, authorities, and spiritual realm powers. Everything was created by Him, for Him, and is held together by Him.
Paul’s portrayal of Christ means that Jesus is central to our understanding of reality: how the world operates, who ultimately controls what we can and cannot see, and how we ought to interact with creation.
In our prayer time together, let us focus on the supremacy of Jesus above all other powers. May we use this foundational truth as a launching pad to engage the world around us and see God’s kingdom made manifest.
