PRAYER & FASTING
In this session of our prayer we are going to focus on exercising our God given bravery which should be a default for every Christian trying to live for God. God has not given us a spirit of fear and that should be a guide for everything that we do and also a sign to not let fear limit our desire to serve God and his church. God is the embodiment of love and strength and throughout today we want to look at how we can conquer our fears so we can continue to make God known and accessible to those around us.
1. GOD’S GIFT
BIBLE
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline” 2 Timothy 1:7
PRAYER
Fear is born of Satan, and if we would only take time to think a moment we would see that everything Satan says is founded upon a falsehood.
A. B. Simpson
We want to start our prayer journey by reaffirming that crippling fear does not have its origin in God and it is not a part of God’s gift to the body of Christ and we should do everything within our strength to make sure fear has no root in our lives, families and church. In this session pray that God will:
- Make us aware of the insidious nature of fear
- Give us the wisdom to stand up and banish fear from our lives
- Strengthen our faith in Him as an antidote to the spirit of fear
MEDITATE
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity: This implies that fear and timidity is not part of God’s design for us as human beings. Take time to think through where fear exists in your life and prayerfully think through the truth that is an antidote to that fear, i.e. I have no value, I can’t engage with people (Lie). You are fearfully and wonderfully made (truth).
2.GIFT OF POWER
BIBLE
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power…” 2 Timothy 1:7
PRAYER
With the power of God within us, we need never fear the powers around us.
– Woodrow Kroll
We want to continue our prayers by acknowledging that God has decided to share his amazing power with us and has placed his power within us through his Holy Spirit. We believe everything we have been called to do is resourced by heaven’s power. So in this session pray that God will…
- Give us the wisdom to be strong in him and his mighty power
- Enable us to wear and live out the gospel which is his power to salvation
- Help us embrace our weakness so his strength could be displayed through us
MEDITATE
“but of POWER: This implies that we have God’s power residing within us. God is the most powerful being in the universe and he shares his power with us. Think of what it would be to embrace that power of God and join with heaven in serving earth. Where can you use God’s power for good?
3.LOVING THE CHURCH
BIBLE
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love…” 2 Timothy 1:7
PRAYER
By the time kids are five I want them to know three things – God made me. God loves me. Jesus wants to be my friend forever. Carey Nieuwhof
We want to journey ahead in our prayers by exploring God’s heart of love for all people. We know that God is inclusive in his love for all people and affirming of our broken humanity whilst providing a way for salvation. So in this session pray that God will
- Burden our heart with love for those outside of his saving grace
- Open our lives to grasp how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is
- Begin a revival of his love in our nation, towns and cities, communities, churches and homes so Christ will be known
MEDITATE
“but of LOVE: This implies that God has invested his love into his family, the church. We are recipients of his love, custodians of his love and advertisers of his love. How can you be an ambassador of love to those around you?
4. GIFT OF SELF DISCIPLINE
BIBLE
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline” 2 Timothy 1:7
PRAYER
We must have a spirit of power towards the enemy, a spirit of love towards men, and a spirit of self-control towards ourselves. Watchman Nee
We want to conclude our prayer journey by focusing on our unique role as individuals in God’s kingdom and why it is important that we do not allow our bodies that feel comfortable in the world and love interacting with it to ever control our lives and lead us away from God. So in this session pray that….
- God will grant you the wisdom to discipline your body and bring it under his control
- You will have the grace to accept God’s divine power to give you everything you need for living a godly life
- Your life will mirror Jesus’ life as you put to death the sinful nature and are led by the Holy Spirit.
MEDITATE
“but of SELF-DISCIPLINE: This implies that God has placed within us a means of controlling our human passion and all other things that want to challenge God’s standards within us. How do we cultivate self discipline? Think of an area of your life where you need to apply more discipline and chat it through with God.
