In a world that often measures worth by merit and achievement, it’s easy to unconsciously bring that same mindset into our relationship with the divine. Yet, as parents, we instinctively understand a different kind of love. Speaking from my own experience, my acceptance and love for my children isn’t based on what they do, but simply because they are mine. It’s not about ownership, but an unquantifiable, deep-seated protectiveness and belonging that comes from them being a part of my very being, my flesh and blood.
This profound truth is also beautifully mirrored in the experience of adoption. Anyone who has journeyed through the adoption process – whether opening their home or being welcomed into a new one – knows the moment that process is complete, it’s about a complete embrace. It’s about welcoming someone fully into a family, or becoming part of one, with all the unconditional privileges and belonging of a cherished family member.
This very truth lies at the heart of Christianity: the liberating revelation that God is our Father, and we are His beloved children. When this profound reality truly settles into our hearts, shaping our worship, informing our prayers, and guiding our everyday lives, that’s when we begin to genuinely grasp the depth and wonder of our relationship with God. It’s a relationship built not on what we earn, but on who He is, and who He has made us to be: His own.
“God could have forgiven our sins and given us right legal standing before him without making us his children. It is important to realize this, because, it helps us to recognize how great our privileges are in adoption. Wayne Grudem
ake the opportunity to thank God for adopting us into his family and for being our Father and creating a family of believers around us.
Pray for a fresh understanding within the body of Christ for the power of adoption and for its power to transform our perspectives of others in the church community and wider community.
Pray for yourself, pray that you will experience the depth of love that comes from being adopted into God’s family. Pray that God will expose lies that try to disrupt this truth in our lives and experience and lead us into a deeper appreciation of God’s affection for us.
We are heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.
Take a moment to process and mull over the reality of this truth
Make this truth a part of your daily journey today.
Think of things you can do that shows you are a child of God
