‘He killed Philistines until his hand was too tired to lift his sword, and the Lord gave him a great victory that day. The rest of the army did not return until it was time to collect the plunder!
2 Samuel 23:10
As the Cave of Adullam began to produce its fruit, men of supernatural grit started to emerge. One of the most striking accounts belongs to a warrior named Eleazar, son of Dodai.
The Philistines gathered for battle at Pas Dammim, and scripture notes a critical moment: the men of Israel retreated. The pressure was intense, the odds were overwhelming, and the collective impulse of the crowd was to flee back to the trenches. But Eleazar broke rank with the fearful.
Eleazar fought through the exhaustion until his fingers physically cramped around the hilt of his weapon. The sword and the hand became one entity. This is the definition of valor: developing a supernatural stamina that refuses to quit just because you are standing alone. When Saul’s army mentality says “protect yourself and run,” David’s mighty men say “the Covenant is worth the fight.”
“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”*
