Thank God for you

28th of August 2024 marked a huge shift in our lives. That was the day we became grandparents. Only four days earlier we were in Africa, so right at the start of Esther’s life we were grateful for Gods timing. Friends had told us to expect a ‘Wow’ moment when you hold your first grandchild, they weren’t wrong! That tiny little creased up human, strangely familiar yet uniquely beautiful, burst into our lives, bringing joy and hope. At the same time she instantly demoted us into the third generational league table. You soon become aware that your parental skills are rusty at best and redundant at worst. But, with age comes experience (hopefully wisdom too) and the ability to see the big picture. You possess the knowledge that it will all turn out sunny in the end… ‘our kids did ok’.
But before we become complacent and self-congratulatory grandparents we have to remind ourselves that it is God who gives life. He is the Good Shepherd, our Heavenly Father and who – in the person of Jesus – welcomed children into his company. We give him all the praise for the joy that Esther brings and place her young family into God’s hands.
