Coming to faith ten years ago was a transformative experience for me, but my journey began long before that moment, thanks to my wife, Nicola. We have been together for 33 years, and during the 23 years prior to my conversion, I had the privilege of witnessing her steadfast faith and selflessness.

Nicola’s unwavering commitment to putting others first and her dedication to the work of the church stood out as defining qualities from the beginning of our relationship. It was a significant part of what drew me to her, yet at times I struggled to fully appreciate these attributes. There were moments when her commitments to church activities or community events clashed with my own desires. For example, I would watch her pour herself into preparing for Sunday kids’ club late into Saturday nights, often after a long week of work. She was visibly exhausted, and I couldn’t understand why she continually sacrificed her time and energy in this way.

When I finally came to faith, a journey Nicola had faithfully prayed for over many years, it was under dramatic and challenging circumstances. In a situation that might have caused many to give up, Nicola stood by me with grace, calmly guiding me through those first hours, days, and months. Her example during that time illuminated what it truly meant to live a Christ-centered life.

Having witnessed her faith in action for so many years, I realise now that I had a head start in understanding what a life transformed by God looks like. As the Holy Spirit began to work in me, reshaping my behaviours, priorities, and attitudes, I started to grasp why Nicola thrived on helping others and why her service to the church brought her so much joy.

I am deeply grateful for her persistence in prayer, her forgiving heart, and the way she has guided me in my own faith journey. Nicola has been a constant source of inspiration – a role model whose vibrant spirit lights up every room she enters. Her unwavering faith and love have shaped me profoundly, and I thank God every day for her presence in my life.
