Our prayer and fasting day is an opportunity to create space in our schedule, thinking and activities and devote that space to engaging with God over and beyond our norm.
PRAYER
Prayer exposes us to God’s wonderful and amazing presence.
It gives us the opportunity to get God involved in our world.
It shifts our focus of self and turns it onto God who loves to engage with us and listen to us
It expands our perspectives as we allow God to enlarge our mind so we begin to see from God’s perspective rather than our own limited view
It breaks the power of darkness as we allow God’s light to shine on our areas of needs
It takes us deeper into God’s being and we become more enlightened by His presence
That is why we pray and encourage God’s community to pray
FASTING
Fasting enables us to bring our body and mind into discipline and shows that we are not control by the but by the Spirit of God within
It gives edge to our pray
It keeps us focus
It keeps our minds active
It suppresses self
ASSURANCE
1 Thessalonians 1:2-5 NLT
We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ. We know, dear brothers and sisters, that God loves you and has chosen you to be his own people. For when we brought you the Good News, it was not only with words but also with power, for the Holy Spirit gave you full assurance that what we said was true. And you know of our concern for you from the way we lived when we were with you.
Prayer is a funny business. A lot of books and sermons have been written about it and lots of studies have been conducted to measure the efficacy of prayer. All of us have a philosophy of prayer known to us or unknown. The truth however is ‘what we believe about prayer will be reflected in our practice’.
The church in Thessalonian was birth in prayer and sustained in prayer and without prayer all of what we need to do for God’s kingdom will become ineffective. We are only as effective as our prayers individually and collectively. As we journey through our day of prayer and fasting I pray that God will illuminate our hearts and minds and re-energise our prayer lives, revive it and help us grow deeper in our relationship with God.
The heart of prayer is simply communicating with the God of heaven who we have a relationship with and who loves hearing from us. I pray our time together will be greatly enriched as we spend time with the God of heaven.
