Rise up in Confidence

This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Where does your confidence come from? Have you ever wondered what gives you the confidence to turn on your tap and drink the water that comes out? In some parts of the world people do not have the same confidence to do that. There was a time when people did not trust the banks to look after their money and most people got paid cash and kept their savings at home with them but now that almost seems laughable, but the question is what gives us confidence in our banking system. There is a confidence that comes from knowing our abilities, a confidence that comes from practice and a confidence that comes from experience. What happens when we are faced with the unexpected and the unfamiliar. This was what Joshua was facing in our verse for today and that is why God drew his attention to what should inspire confidence in him, Don’t be afraid or discouraged for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Our confidence comes from who we are anchored to and their status. People say ‘it’s who you know’ when you know the one who created everything and holds creation together with his powerful word then you can truly be confident and not afraid. So today we want to rise in confidence because of the one we know and who still sits on the throne of the universe.

It is one thing to believe in God; it is quite another to believe God. R. C. Sproul

Joshua’ relationship with God became the catalyst for all that he did. Having assisted Moses for most of his life he was now the man in charge under God. We know the responsibility must have been overwhelming and that is why God encouraged him. Praying that you experience God’s encouragement today

  • Lord help me to see you
  • Lord help me to hear you
  • Lord help me to trust you
  • Lord help me to follow you
  • Lord increase my confidence in you

Sometimes we forget our prayers to God about others until we hear from the recipients of those blessed prayers and the difference it has made to their lives. Maybe we forget because when we prayed those prayers we were not expecting anything to change because even though we prayed we had no confidence in our prayer but fortunately for those we prayed for God has confidence in his ability to honour our prayers to him and sometimes do that even without us knowing.

I love the text that states “And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for”. 1 John 5:14-15

So today as you pray, why don’t you make a note of the things you are asking God that pleases him and as a step of faith thank God for answering your prayers and when you go to bed just another moment to say ‘God, thank you for responding to my prayer about ??????. I am grateful for your blessing”.
