PRAYER and FASTING

Session One

Praise the name of Jesus

Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven! Praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness! Praise him with a blast of the ram’s horn; praise him with the lyre and harp! Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes! Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals. Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord! Psalm 150

REFLECTION

Praise of Jesus is a declaration of who Jesus is and seeing him for who he is rather than what we might assume him to be. Jesus said when he is lifted up he would draw people to him. Right at the beginning of human beings’ relationship breakdown with God, the enemy sowed the seed of disinformation about God. This led to God being accused rather than praised. Adam said ‘it was the woman you gave me’. Rather than to see God’s goodness and celebrate it, the enemy blinded human beings to God’s loving intentions and focussed their eyes on something else that hindered praise. Praise is vital to our relationship with the divine, It enables us to see God not from a human perspective but from a higher perspective that leads to reverence.

QUOTES

“Any man or woman on this earth who is bored or turned off by worship is

not ready for Heaven.” ― A.W. Tozer

PRAYER

In this session we want to celebrate Jesus and praise him for all the amazing

things he has done. There are so many amazing things that came with salvation and we want to remember them and prayerfully thank God for them in this session. Forgiveness of sin; reconciliation with God; Eternal life; adoption into God’s family; The indwelling Holy Spirit; peace with God; freedom from the power of sin and justification before God. All these amazing things are now ours because of Jesus. May our hearts be full of gratitude as we praise the name of Jesus.

MEDITATE

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord

Take a moment to feel your breath and listen to it and then hold it for 5 seconds. As you breathe again, may it be full of praise for God and life.
